Teen charged with rape, murder after woman’s body found in Melbourne Park
A 19-year-old man from Broadmeadows has been charged with the rape and murder of a woman whose body was found on a soccer field in Melbourne's inner north.
The woman was found by apasser-by on the field at the Princes Park sporting precinct between Royal Parade and Princes Park Drive in Carlton North on Wednesday.
Paramedics were called to the scene but the woman could not be revived.
Police said the man was arrested last night and charged with one count of rape and one count of murder.
The woman is yet to be formally identified, but is believed to be in her 20s.
The man will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court this morning.
More police were put on patrol in the area after the body was found.
The area is popular with runners, walkers and cyclists, and part of the Princes Park running track was closed off on Wednesday.
