An arctic cold front moving into the Northeast will help break low temperature records in New York City.

According to the National Weather Service, the city will experience a high temperature of 37F and a low of just 24F on Friday.

If the temperature does dip to 24F, it will beat out the previous record low of 30F on November 10, 1954.

AccuWeather forecaster Alex Sosnowski urged those in the blast's path to drain outdoor water supplies and make their homes winter ready.

He said: 'The first arctic blast of the season will drop out of Canada and sweep quickly eastward from the Upper Midwest to New England during the second half of this week.

'Outdoor plumbing in unheated areas should be [made winter ready] as temperatures will plummet well below freezing.'

Temperatures will begin to return to seasonal during the day on Saturday, climbing back to around 40F with the trend continuing into Sunday as highs return to the lower 50s.
