The Black Widow movie is crawling ever closer.
The standalone film starring Scarlett Johansson as the titular spy turned Avenger has taken one step closer after Marvel locked down a writer.
Jac Schaeffer, who wrote and directed 2009's TiMER, has been hired to work on the script.

Johansson has played the defected Russian spy six times on the big screen so far, starting with an appearance opposite Robert Downey Jr in 2010's Iron Man 2.
Her seventh turn rolls around next May with the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Infinity War.
Marvel has yet to officially greenlight the pic; there have been 17 MCU films to date, starting with the original Iron Man in 2008, the most recent being November's Thor Ragnarok.

Six more have specific release dates — beginning with February's Black Panther — while the furthest planned film so far is Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 sometime in 2020.
Schaeffer is an up and coming screenwriter whose script The Shower — a comedy about an alien invasion during a baby shower — caught the attention of Anne Hathaway on the Black List, attaching herself to the pic.
Hathaway then tapped her to write Nasty Women, the remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels she is also starring in, alongside Rebel Wilson.

Black Widow — AKA Natasha Romanova — debuted in Marvel's Tales of Suspense #52 April 1964, originally as an antagonist of Tony Stark.
A martial arts and weapons expert and world class athlete, she defected to the US and became an agent of SHIELD.
