Thursday on MSNBC’s “Hardball,” Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) slammed those pushing for the release of a three-page memo generated by the Republican-controlled House Intelligence Committee.

Host Chris Matthews postulated the release of this memo was being done to damage the credibility of the FBI in the eyes of the public. Himes took it a step further and criticized proponents of the release in the media, which included Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity and Jeanine Pirro, who described as “mouth-breathers.”

“It’s astonishing Chris — I tell you, when kind of mouth breathers like Hannity and Pirro, you know, throw this stuff up on television, it doesn’t surprise me,” Himes said.

He also ripped members of Congress, including Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) for their support as well.

“But when you got people like Mark Meadows, United States Senators like Ron Johnson, who should know better, perpetuating this idea as Senator Johnson said, that there’s corruption at the top of the FBI based on a memo that, I tell you, having read it, you know, you would hope that whoever wrote that was a couple of whiskeys in the bag,” he added. “And that memo, of course, being based on intelligence — you know, none of these people have reviewed — it’s astonishing. What they’ve done is they’ve traded their integrity. You know, senators and congressmen have traded their integrity and their historical legacy for a momentary sugar high of supporting a president who would not support them in any instance whatsoever.”
