Anthony Martial has been left astonished by the lack of progress over a new Manchester United deal, according to reports.
The France international’s current contract expires in the summer of 2019 and although the club retains the option of extending by a further year, talks over an extension are said to have hit a standstill.
RMC claims the 22-year-old’s agent met with Manchester United back in December but a proposal has not been forthcoming and the player believes the lack of communication represents a lack of recognition for his progress this season.
Martial endured a difficult time of it last year as he struggled to win Jose Mourinho’s confidence, but had shown significant improvement before the January arrival of Alexis Sanchez which appears to have compromised his position.
The former Monaco forward has started just twice since Sanchez’s arrival from Arsenal last month and the stalemate over contract negotiations is said to have interrupted his purchase of a new house.
Arsenal enquired about Martial’s availability before turning their attentions to Henrikh Mkhitaryan as part of the swap deal which saw Sanchez move in the opposite direction, but it is their north London rivals Tottenham who are said to be monitoring his situation closest.
