Cristiano Ronaldo sends message of support to ex-Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson
The 76-year-old was taken by ambulance from his home in Cheshire to Macclesfield district hospital on Saturday morning before he was transferred, with a police escort, to Salford Royal hospital.
A statement from United on Saturday evening said: The procedure has gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to optimise his recovery.
Ferguson, who won 38 major trophies in 26 years as United boss, has received several messages of support from clubs and players.
And Ronaldo, who spent six years with Ferguson at Old Trafford, also sent a personal message to the Scot.
The Real Madrid forward posted a picture of the pair together accompanied with the caption: My thoughts and prayers are with you, my dear friend. Be strong, Boss!
Under Fergusons guidance, Ronaldo won three Premier League titles, and FA Cup and the Champions League before leaving to join Real Madrid in 2009.
Ronaldo has described Ferguson as his football father and was presented with the man of the match award by his former manager after last seasons Champions League final.
