Matildas to play defending World Cup champions US
The Matildas will play the US as part of the world champions' preparations for next year's World Cup.
The US have finalised their plans for a 10-game "Countdown to the Cup" tour in advance of the 2019 tournament in France.
The world No.1 team will visit Europe to start the new year, playing France and Spain, before playing eight matches in the US.
Their home fixtures include Australia, Japan, England, Brazil, Belgium and South Africa, who have qualified for the World Cup for the first time.
The US and the Matildas will learn their opponents for the World Cup group stage when the draw is held in Paris on Sunday at 4am.
“The USA are one of the favourites to win next years FIFA Womens World Cup so it is fantastic that we will be able to play them just a couple of months before the start of the tournament in France,” said Matildas coach Alen Stajcic said.
“Come April next year many of our players will be playing their club football in the National Womens Soccer League, so it also makes sense from a logistical perspective to arrange a camp and friendly in North America as we continue to prepare for the World Cup.
“We expect to play a further five or six matches prior to the start of next years World Cup,” he said.
