When a hitman failed to carry out his kill a mother and daughter became enraged.
So enraged, in fact, that they decided to contact police in Spain to report him.
The unnamed pair, aged 52 and 20, paid the daughters boyfriend a deposit of €7,000 (£6,272) to kill the mothers partner and sell his organs.
He allegedly told them that he was a government spy and needed the cash to find and kill him.
But the murder was not carried out so they went to police to make a formal complaint about losing the money.
Police sources said the pair hoped the extraction and sale of their victims organs would help them to recover €60,000 (£53,765) allegedly stolen from the mother.
The daughters boyfriend, who claimed to have won a string of medals as a secret agent for Spanish official intelligence agency CNI, was arrested hours later.
