Manchester City and Everton win to go top of Women’s Super League

REUTERS: Manchester City's Pauline Bremer grabbed a brace of goals in a 2-0 win away to Reading and Chloe Kelly scored two superb long-range strikes of her own as Everton beat Bristol City 2-0 in the second round of games in the FA Women's Super League on Sunday.

City's Bremer cut inside and curled home a brilliant opener on the half-hour mark to give her side the lead. She poked home a second in the 59th minute to seal all three points and make it two wins out of two for last season's runners-up.

Everton's Kelly did her best to steal Bremer's thunder, first cutting in from the left and pinging a long-range shot in off the post. A minute later she did it again, blasting a brilliant first-time effort into the top-right corner.

Midfielder Aileen Whelan thought she had given Brighton & Hove Albion all three points at home to Chelsea but Finnish forward Adelina Engman fired home the equaliser in the first minute of second-half stoppage time to grab a point.

Tottenham Hotspur bounced back from their opening-day defeat to Chelsea, a Rachel Furness penalty giving them a 1-0 win over Liverpool, who had Niamh Fahey sent off for bringing down Rosella Ayane when she was through on goal in the 65th minute.
