Detroit officer shot dead during home invasion

The suspect, who investigators believe intruded into the house while looking for his girlfriend, fired a high-powered rifle at officers inside the home after they'd arrived to look for him, Detroit Police Chief James Craig said.One of the officers returned fire, injuring the suspect, who fled but eventually was arrested a short distance from the home, Craig said.An 18-year veteran of the Detroit Police Department died after being shot in the neck, authorities said. A second officer, who'd been with the department three years, was shot in a leg and was in serious condition Wednesday night at a hospital, Craig said.
