Vietnam Airlines has hosted an event to welcome its first flights to and from Sheremetyevo International Airport.

It comes as the carrier moves its operation from Domodedovo airport, further enhancing connectivity between Vietnam and Russia.

Upon arrival, flight VN63 from Hanoi to Moscow was welcomed by a water cannon salute and passengers were greeted with bread and salt as a Russian tradition by hosts in national costume.

On the same day, Vietnam Airlines also celebrated the first flight VN62 departing from Sheremetyevo.

The ambassador of Vietnam to Russia, Ngo Duc Manh, representatives of Vietnam Airlines and Sheremetyevo Airport attended the cutting ribbon ceremony.

The airport move has provided passengers greater choice and flexibility when travelling to domestic destinations in Russia as well as Europe when combining with Vietnam Airlines and Aeroflots vast networks as well as other airlines operating at Sheremetyevo Airport.

Discover Puerto Rico has appointed United Kingdom-based travel representation and PR consultancy Hills Balfour, an MMGY Global company, as its international representation agency.

Hills Balfour will oversee Discover Puerto Ricos marketing, trade and PR interests in Canada, Colombia, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom, working together to grow international arrivals.

Discover Puerto Rico is a private, not for-profit enterprise whose mission is to make Puerto Rico visible to the world.

Hills Balfour will work in partnership with the organisation to position the Island as a premier travel destination to an international audience in order to increase visitation, dispersal and spend.

Master developer Nakheel is adding another stunning, landmark attraction to Dubais recreation and leisure scene with the View at the Palm, a public observation deck towering 240 metres above the world-famous Palm Jumeirah.

Accessible from Nakheel Mall, the observatory will offer spectacular, uninterrupted views of the Palm, the Arabian Gulf and the Dubai skyline, and reveal the incredible story behind the making of the island that put Dubai on the global map.

The View at The Palm, for which a fit-out contract was signed last month, is perched on the top level, 52nd floor of the Palm Tower, at the heart of the island.

The observation deck, which includes a VIP lounge and areas for private events, is nearing completion.

Omar Khoory, managing director of Nakheel Malls, which will operate the attraction, said: “The View at The Palm will combine awe-inspiring, breath-taking views with an interactive, educational experience about the creation of the iconic Palm Jumeirah.

Visitors to The View will start their journey at the roof plaza of Nakheel Mall, where they will find an interactive museum and gallery dedicated to the creation of Palm Jumeirah.

From there, an elevator, complete with a floor-to-ceiling digital sea, sand and sky experience, will take them on the three-minute ascent to the observatory at the top of the Palm Tower, where they can marvel at the island beneath them, and enjoy 360 degree views of Dubai.

Aer Lingus inaugural service to Minneapolis-St. Paul, gateway to the Midwest, has taken to the skies, marking the start of the airlines 16th transatlantic route.

The new service to Minnesotas famous Twin Cities is the latest North American destination to be unveiled by Irelands flag carrier, as part of its ambition to become the leading value carrier across the transatlantic.

Flight EI089 was operated by a Boeing 757, named after the Irish Saint, Saint Otteran.

The new route will initially operate six times a week, increasing to a daily, year-round service from August.

Up to 2,478 return seats will be available every week.

Minneapolis-St. Paul is Aer Lingus 16th transatlantic route following the successful debut of its services to Philadelphia and Seattle last year.

ASGC has been appointed to construct the new Dubai Cruise Terminal at Dubai Harbour, the first ever dedicated cruise port in the region, which when complete, will be the most advanced of its kind in the Middle East.

Located in the heart of Dubai, in the vibrant area between Bluewaters and Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Cruise Terminal will become the main hub for international cruise ships visiting or deployed in the region.

More than 117 million visitors travelled to Illinois in 2018, setting a new record number of visitors for the state, governor Jay Pritzker announced today.

Visitors to the state spent $41.7 billion, boosting Illinois economy by $2 billion over the previous year, according to data provided by the United States Travel Association.

This record growth resulted in a 5.1 per cent increase in visitor spending over 2017 – higher than the national visitor growth rate of 4.9 per cent.

State and local tax revenue generated from visitor spending jumped 7.1 per cent to $3.3 billion, creating an additional $221 million for the state and local communities.

“From the limestone caves at Mississippi Palisades State Park to summer music festivals in Chicago, Illinois is full of vibrant cities and towns with endless attractions that receive millions of visitors each year.

“Travel and tourism in Illinois is a $40 billion industry and an integral part of our states economy.

“Im proud to be governor of the state where visitors can explore amazing,” said governor Pritzker.

The Illinois travel and tourism industry supported 342,300 jobs in 2018, an increase of 5,200 jobs from 2017.

The recently established Global Tourism & Crisis Management Centre is set to partner with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to conduct research on the potential threat of sargassum to the destination and wider Caribbean.

Sargassum is a type of brown seaweed.

Numerous species are distributed throughout the temperate and tropical oceans of the world, where they inhabit shallow water and coral reefs.

Minister Bartlett, who made the announcement at the Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Associations annual general meeting at the Hilton Hotel in Montego Bay today, said: “The issue of managing sargassum has become more urgent since large quantities of different species of the algae accumulated along the shores of many of the countries on the Caribbean Sea in 2015.

“Sargassum, as a disruptive phenomenon, can negatively impact our destination as when washed up on shore, it often causes a foul odour, releasing fumes of sulphur compounds that rust metals, and damage modern conveniences.”
